Gas Gas attends the Dakar 2012 with interesting news and a highly competitive team

The challenge of the Catalan trademark is still in the high-level competition, now reaching long distance races, too
Marc Guasch and Laia Sanz have recently joined Gas Gas in order to compete in the international trial, enduro and raids championships.

Gas Gas, the historical company that manufactures trial and enduro motorbikes, has made a strong bet for the new season with three firstclass signings: pilots Laia Sanz and Marc Guasch, and engineer Pere Ibáñez.

Brilliant world champion Laia Sanz takes the leap to the Catalan trademark to compete simultaneously in international championships of trial, enduro and raids. Following to their signings, both Sanz and Guash have got started, and they are already working at full capacity to get ready for the Dakar 2012.

This year the Dakar proposes a colossal adventure that takes the rally from the Atlantic Coast to the Pacific Coast, covering more than 9000 kilometres. The hard route will take the participants to new defiances, to unknown terrains. The relevance of this new Dakar can also be appreciated from the the sport format modification, that will take the pilots to cover the route during 14 days. Under the unvarying cover of The Andes, that will also become an impressive guide, pilots will go through the Atacama desert, undergoing also the challenge of the eternal Peruvian dunes, which will remind the most experienced of the distant Mauritania.

Registrarion to the contest is open, which makes the race perfect for adventure lovers. The participation of amateur competitors usually reaches an 80% of the registered contenders

Laia Sanz gets ready for the Dakar with the new Gas Gas

The Catalan pilot has been training in the off-road track of the Alcañiz circuit, with a view to confront with secutiry the coming season and very especially the Dakar, that will start on January 1st in the lands of Argentina, Chile and Peru

For the preparation of this competition and also in order to get adapted to the new motorbike, the young pilot spent several days training in different off-road tracks installed in the surroundings of the Motorland circuit, belonging to the same racing facility.

Gas Gas, a Catalan company where off-road trial and enduro motorbikes are manufactured and sold since 1985, was founded by professionals with a wide experience in the field and has a staff of more than 100 workers. It is a world leading company in the trial market and holds a top position in the enduro market. Gas Gas manufactures 9.000 motorcycles per year with an annual turnover (July fiscal end) of 39,5 million in 2011 and an EBITDA of 4,2.

Most Gas Gas motorbikes are manufactured in Salt, Girona, a municipality that houses two production lines, one for assembly and one for engines. These venues have an overall manufacturing potential enough to raise up to four times its present annual production.

Gas Gas’ presence spreads all over 47 countries, its products reaching all Europe, as well as other international markets such as Australia, New Zeland, Canada, South America and the USA. The company has a 50% of the world market share in trial motorbikes, and aims at improving the market share in the raid segment by taking part in the Dakar 2012.
