Torrot’s GasGas Rally Team, ready for a return to the Dakar

01/04/2018

Now that the scrutineering of the bikes and the paperwork has been successfully completed, Jonathan Barragán, Johnny Aubert and Cristian España impatiently await the start of the 2018 Dakar Rally, tomorrow in Lima, on Saturday 6th January.

After having competed four times in the Dakar - from 2012 to 2015 - the GasGas Rally Team is back to race in the world’s toughest rally thanks to Torrot. Once the scrutineering of the bikes and the paperwork is successfully out of the way, Jonathan BarragánJohnny Aubert and Cristian España will be on the start line of the 40th edition of the Dakar Rally, with the first day of racing between the capital of Peru and Pisco.

This liaison stage is 242 kilometres long with a short 31 kilometres special. This will be the first contact with the sand, the dunes and the necessary navigation techniques typical of the area for the GasGas Rally Team. They will have to overcome these conditions as well as the intense heat for the first five days of the Rally.

GIOVANNI SALA (Team Manager): “Our team has successfully completed the scrutineering and the paperwork without any problems. So, off we go! Today the riders have another day to finish off any last minute preparations before tomorrow, when the Dakar really gets under way. The days before the race there is always a certain feeling of tense calm. This, the 40th edition, promises to be really tough, so we are going to have to be at our best right from the first stage as the Rally is going to plunge us straight into the dunes, the sand and some tricky navigation.”

60# JONATHAN BARRAGÁN: “We have got through the scrutineering and our bikes are in the closed parking area waiting for the start of the Dakar. Everything is ready. I’m looking forward to tomorrow so that we can get started. We have been very carefully preparing this Rally for a very long time and now is the moment to make our dream come true and make our debut in the Dakar.”

40# JOHNNY AUBERT: “The bike has just successfully passed the scrutineering together with the GasGas Rally Team. Everything is going well and both the riders as well as the technical team are really motivated and happy to be here. Now there is only one day left to wait for the big day, the start of the 2018 Dakar.”

31# CRISTIAN ESPAÑA: “Today we successfully passed the scrutineering of the bikes here in Lima. So we have taken another step forward and we have one less job to do before tomorrow, when we set off towards Pisco. We are highly motivated and have everything ready for the start of the Rally.”
