Mixed Bag For GasGas North America At Steele Creek GNCC

It was a mixed bag for GasGas North America FAR Racing at round four of the Grand National Cross Country Series in Morganton, North Carolina. The bright spot was Nick Davis’ sixth place finish in the XC2 division after running as high as fourth on his GasGas XC250. However, XC1 rider Andrew DeLong struggled with his suspension and was forced to settle for a 28 th overall. GasGas WMX rider Korie Steede had her share of problems, as well, and DNFed the Steele Creek event when she suffered a shoulder injury as a result of a second-lap crash.

Andrew Delong: I just seemed to struggle all day. We were trying new suspension at Steele Creek, and I didn’t click with the settings. Other than dealing with the new suspension, the bike performed great. It’s just going to take me a bit of time to get everything sorted out.

Nick Davis finished 6th in the XC2 division on his 2018 XC250. The Pennsylvania rider got squeezed off in the first turn at the start and was near the back of the pack when he began the first lap. Davis did an excellent job of working his way through the field, however, and ran as high as fourth place until a problem with the rear shock forced him to temper his pace. Davis now sits in eighth place overall in the XC2 standings.

Nick Davis: I didn’t get off to the best of starts. My XC250 fired up right away, but I kind of got pinched off in the first turn and I think I was about 15th after the start. I was able to pass my way up to fourth by the end of the first lap, but unfortunatly we had a small issue with my rear shock and I wasn’t able to keep charging, so I faded back to sixth at the finish. Overall, it was a good finish, because I moved up into the top 10 in points for the XC2 division and 16 overall for the year. We are gaining and the bike is coming around so we’re happy.

Women’s WXC rider Korie Steede was forced to retire after injuring her shoulder in a second-lap crash during the morning race. Steede got off the line in eighth and was making her way towards the front when she went over the bars and into a tree. She was schedule to see her orthopedic specialist on Monday for a diagnosis.

Korie Steede: I had a little gaffe in the woods and I fell on my shoulder and injured it, so I was forced to call it a day on the second lap. I went over the bars and into a tree. I was running eighth at the time, and I was moving up so it’s disappointing.
