GasGas North America Steele Creek GNCC

Gas Gas North America FAR Racing, consisting of Andrew DeLong in the XC1 Pro class and Nick Davis in the XC2 250 Pro class, posted a pair of promising 10th place finishes at round five of the Grand National Cross Country Series in Society Hill, South Carolina.

DeLong felt like his 10th in the XC1 Pro class in South Carolina was his best performance of the year. The Pennsylvania rider got off to a good start on his GasGas XC300, and ran in the top five for the first half of the race. The Society Hills course was extremely rough and due to the conditions DeLong faded during the later laps, dropping to 10th, however he was pleased with his speed during the opening laps of the race and confident he and the team are on the right track.

Nick Davis was on his way to a solid podium finish when a weld on an aftermarket item let go, forcing the Pennsylvania rider into the pits for repairs. Despite the setback, Davis still managed to salvage a 10th place finish in the XC2 division.

Davis jumped out to a great start on his 2018 XC250 and was fighting for the holeshot when a competitor clipped his rear wheel, nearly putting both riders on the ground. Davis exited the first turn in next to last place due to the incident, but proceeded to carve his way towards the front. By the end of the first lap Davis had made his way up into sixth, which was remarkable considering the dusty conditions. On lap two, Davis was into third. Davis dropped to fourth when he pitted for fuel, but by lap five he had worked his way back into contention for third place. Mechanical gremlins struck when Davis entered the woods on lap five, forcing him to the pits for repairs.

Despite the setback, Davis still managed to pit, replace the broken item, and then work his way back through the field to post an impressive 10th place finish.

Women’s WXC rider Korie Steede is still recovering from injury.

Andrew Delong: I feel really good about how today’s race went. I think it’s a step in the right direction and I think things are finally starting to click. The bike setup is dialed in now and it really feels good to me. It’s all about getting races under my belt now. As the season progresses, I think you will see our results improving rapidly.

Nick Davis: It’s disappointing to have an aftermarket item break like that, especially when we were in contention for the podium. The bike was running great and I felt like I was riding a good race when it all came crashing down. I’m coming away from this with some optimisism though, because we’ve been consistently battling for the podium at the last few races and I think that’s going to continue.

Gas Gas North America FAR Racing resumes action on May 6 in Arrington, Virginia, for the Dragon’s Back National Enduro.
