GasGas adds a victory and five podiums in its race through Castelo Branco

05/08/2018

After Nambotin's triumph and McCanney and Basset's third places yesterday, today Nambotin and McCanney, second and third, respectively, in E3, and Basset, third in E1, are back on the podium in the GP of Portugal in the EnduroGP World Championship. Pohjola, fourth, was a hair's breadth from a podium position in E1.

After yesterday's victory and two podiums, the GasGas Factory Team has continued adding yet more podium positions on the second day of the GP of Portugal held in Castelo Branco. After his first winning of the season in E3 yesterday, Christophe Nambotin has kept on riding at an excellent level and fought throughout all today's special tests to once again be the best in his category. Finally, the French rider climbed up onto the second step of the podium. Danny McCanney, who was back together with him on the podium, has repeated the third place he got in E3 yesterday.

In E1, Antoine Basset climbed back to third place on the podium in a Grand Prix characterized by heat and dust in all the stages. The young Finnish rider, Eemil Pohjola, continues making giant strides in his adaptation to the GasGas EnduroGP 250 and, after his sixth place on the first day, today almost made it on to the podium, in fourth position.

The EnduroGP World Championship takes a break of one month and the GasGas Factory Team will be back in action in Estonia from 1st to 3rd June.

CHRISTOPHE NAMBOTIN :
"Yesterday's victory was very important and I am very happy. Today was a bit more complicated. I rode some good special tests, but I made a mistake and had a fall. I knew I needed a little more speed to be the fastest, but I fought and I gave it everything I had. The third place is a good result. Now it's time to prepare the Estonian GP."

DANNY MCCANNEY:
"Even though it's not the terrain I like, it's not the result I hoped for this weekend. I fought hard throughout the two days, I gave it everything. Today I had a fall with a stone in the Extreme Test and I lost a lot of time. In the end, two third positions in E3. We will continue working to prepare the race in Estonia well."

ANTOINE BASSET:
"Yesterday, on the first day, I really pushed it and it was a good day. I fought hard to sneak into the EnduroGP top 10 and finally I was eleventh. In the end two third places that are very good, both for me and for GasGas. We will continue training to get even better in Estonia."

EEMIL POHJOLA:
"After sixth place yesterday, today I was fourth. I'm happy with the result and with the bike, but I know I can give more of myself. The conditions, with heat and dust were complicated, it's not what I'm used to. I will continue working hard to improve in the next races, starting with the Estonian GP."
