Seventh Place Finish For Gas Gas North America’s Andrew DeLong At Tomahawk GNCC

FAR Racing Gas Gas North America’s Andrew DeLong turned in an impressive seventh place finish in the XC1 class at this weekend’s Tomahawk GNCC in Alpine, New York. Riding a GasGas XC300, DeLong overcame a frustrating first lap, which left him at the back of the pack, and clawed his way into seventh place in the XC1 division at the end of the three-hour race. The finish was DeLong’s best of the season.

Meanwhile, in the XC2 250 Pro class, Nick Davis was running an impressive third on his 2018 GasGas XC250 when an XC1 rider collided with him at the end of a fourth-gear straight. Nick’s bike suffered considerable damage, while he suffered a dislocated shoulder. After limping back to the pits, Nick managed to pop his shoulder back in place while Gas Gas mechanic Joey Mauer was able to straighten the bike out enough for Nick to return to the race. In the end, Nick was able to salvage a 19th place finish.

Korie Steede ran as high as fourth in the WXC class on her 2018 GasGas XC250, however a crash on the final lap left the Indiana rider hopelessly stuck at the bottom of a ravine. Kori finished the day in ninth place.

Andrew DeLong:
Things went pretty good today, although the first lap didn’t go so well. The track was pretty slippery and I was over-riding the bike and just spinning everywhere and I dropped to the back of the pack because of that. On the second lap I started riding a higher gear and lugging the bike and using my momentum and I started catching guys and I worked my way up into seventh. It was a good race. It was my best finish of the year and I felt I made some good progress today.

Nick Davis:
I was running up front in the XC2 250 Pro class and we were catching the XC1 guys when one of them hit me wide-open and took me out. The track went right at the end of a fast straight and he turned left and it wadded the bike up and dislocated my shoulder. I made it back to the pits and Joey got the bike fixed up and we popped my shoulder back in place and I went back out and finished 19th.

Korie Steede:My race was going really good today until the final lap. I was passing another rider on a steep downhill when she moved over into my line, which sent me tumbling down the side of a ravine. The throttle stuck wide open on my bike and I ended up getting stuck in the bottom of the ravine. The only way out was to go all the way around this steep hill to get out of the hole, which cost me a lot of time.

The FAR Racing Gas Gas North America team returns to action on June 24th for the Snowshoe GNCC in Snowshoe, West Virginia, round nine of the Grand National Cross Co untry Series.
