GASGAS THANKS SAM SUNDERLAND AS RALLY-RAID STAR ANNOUNCES RETIREMENT

Thank you, Sam! It’s a bittersweet moment for GASGAS as we announce that our rally hero Sam Sunderland has decided to hang up his boots and retire from professional motorcycle racing. Sam’s journey with GASGAS and the company has been super successful, and we’re beyond proud of everything he has achieved with the team.

  • Sunderland to retire from professional motorcycle racing
  • Sam’s outstanding career included two world championships and two Dakar wins
  • Red Bull GASGAS Factory Racing wish Sam all the best for the future

Joining Red Bull GASGAS Factory Racing for the 2022 season, Sam kicked off his stint on the RX 450F with a bang by claiming victory in the 2022 Dakar Rally – the first ever win for GASGAS at the world’s toughest rally-raid. And that was just the beginning! Sam kept the momentum going with stellar performances at each FIM World Rally-Raid Championship round in 2022, ultimately clinching his second world championship title. What a year!

Sam first joined the company back in 2014, and during his time racing for the team he secured no less than two world championships and two Dakar victories, not to mention multiple stage and event wins along the way. Red Bull GASGAS Factory Racing couldn’t be more grateful for Sam’s passion, dedication, and sheer awesomeness he brought to every race. Sam will continue working with the team, using his vast experience in a support and development role. Thank you for everything, Sam, we’re already looking forward to working closely together again in the future!

Sam Sunderland: “It is with gratitude, humility, a bit of sadness, but without regret, that I announce my retirement from motorcycle racing after having a career that I dreamed of once upon a time. From winning two world championships to my two Dakar victories, it’s been an incredible run. I would like to thank everyone that has been a part of this chapter and I’m looking forward to staying close to the team and playing a part in supporting their race efforts in the future.”

Andreas Hölzl – Rally Team Manager: “We would like to say a massive thank you to Sam for his time with Red Bull GASGAS Factory Racing. I speak for the whole team when I say we’re sad to hear that Sam is retiring from racing, but we completely respect his decision and thank him for everything he has done for us over the years. Beyond being a phenomenal racer, Sam is a fantastic person – always supportive, motivating, and a true team player. He is a huge part of the GASGAS family, and we look forward to working with him again in new and exciting ways in the future.”

Pit Beirer – Motorsports Director: “Sam joined the company back in 2014, and since then his passion, dedication, and results have been exceptional. He not only secured two world championships and two Dakar victories, but he played a massive part in the successes of the whole team. Over the years, our relationship with Sam became stronger and stronger, and with his move to Red Bull GASGAS Factory Racing in 2022, he continued to make history. While it’s tough to see Sam go, we respect his decision. I’d like to personally thank Sam for everything he put into the team and wish him well for the future.”

Yep, it’s happening again! Grabbo’s Trail and Track is fired up to announce the return of their epic collaboration with GASGAS for 2025. That’s right - for the third year running, we’re bringing back the ultimate VIP Race Experience, and this time, we’ve turned the dial up to 11. Grabbo Trail & Track VIP Race Experience is ready for 2025, fueled by GASGAS Experience desert racing full VIP style – dialed race machine, support, the works! New race added to the 2025 calendar After a wild ride in 2024 - including Ben ‘Grabbo’ Grabham lining up with VIP legends in four of the five desert races (even with a busted hand at Hattah, the machine doesn’t quit) - we’re coming in hotter than ever. Grabbo even went and bettered his Finke result on the GASGAS EC 500F, and closed the season by being crowned King of the West for a third year straight at the brutal Kalgoorlie Desert Race. GASGAS MACHINES, DIALED BY A LEGEND “I’m stoked to be racing the GASGAS EC range again,” says Grabbo. “Straight out of the crate, these bikes are the most powerful I’ve ridden. Once we throw on the race parts and tune them up? Even better. I don’t race for a living anymore — I race because I love it, and these bikes make me want to keep lining up.” Better handling, more grunt, and a setup that screams go time. Our VIPs? They get the best of it. WHAT’S COMING IN 2025? The Finke Desert Race VIP package is back, but don’t blink, because it’s already SOLD OUT. But good news: 2026 bookings are now open, and it’s the 50th anniversary of the event, so you won’t want to miss that one. Next up: Hattah Desert Race, Don River Dash, and the big finale out west at Kalgoorlie. Oh, and we’re throwing something new in the mix... NEW RACE DROP: YELLOW MOUNTAIN We’re heading bush. The Yellow Mountain Cross Country joins the VIP calendar for 2025 - 240km of open farmland, flowing single track and good times, racing from Condobolin to Tottenham and back. Grabbo’s only raced it once (back in 2008 — and yep, he won), and now we’re heading back with a full VIP setup. “This one’s been on my radar for years,” says Grabbo. “It’s a mix of speed and flow - like Finke with a twist. I reckon our crew is going to love it.” NEW FOR 2025: CUSTOM BIKE BUILDS + RACE PREP Want a race weapon that’s built for you? 2025 introduces Grabbo’s bike build and race prep packages - think suspension dial-ins, custom engines, and race-ready setups tailored to your riding style and budget. With over 30 years building bikes for desert, enduro, and flat track - yeah, you’re in safe hands. BACK AGAIN: VIP RIDE EXPERIENCES The VIP Wild West Ride made some noise last year, and we’re bringing it back in 2025 - plus a few new adventures we’re not quite ready to drop just yet (watch this space). Grabbo also linked up with Adam Riemann in WA and Ballard’s Offroad in NSW to deliver some killer trail rides - and yep, some of those will be returning too. DON’T JUST TAKE IT FROM US... Brodie Crane, QLD “The setup was unreal. Felt good straight away. Big thanks to the team for making it a breeze.” — Don River Dash 2024 John Pilla, VIC “The most dangerous thing I’ve ever done — and the best. Grabbo’s team nailed it. I didn’t have to worry about a thing. Unreal experience.” — Finke Desert Race 2024 Jason Johnson, NSW “Grabbo worked on my bike all week, fine-tuning it every day until it felt perfect. Justin Barcia races to 14th place finish in Philadelphia BAMBAM manages issues throughout the race in moving forward Currently sits in seventh place in 450SX standings Barcia set the 11th-fastest time in qualifying equipped with his GASGAS MC 450F Factory Edition, navigating a circuit that heavy rain had impacted in the lead-up to race day. A mid-field start in the Heat Race saw BAMBAM steadily make his way through the pack, making a series of commanding passes that would earn the number 51 a third-place finish by race's end. In the premier class Main Event, Barcia launched out of the gates to take the lead on the opening lap, only for it to come unraveled right after the finish line jump. Salvaging positions from there after remouting in last position, Barcia would claim a hard-fought 14th-place finish and valuable points toward his championship tally. Justin Barcia: "Challenging day today! I hurt my finger pretty bad on Thursday, so I was lucky to be out here riding. Qualified 11th and then in the Heat Race we got third, which considering the circumstances was pretty good. Main Event, I launched out of the gate for a great start and then had a small issue with my rear brake there, which I managed for the rest of the race. Bummer deal, but we’ll try again next weekend at my hometown race in New Jersey.” Next Race: April 19 – East Rutherford, New Jersey Results 450SX Class – Philadelphia 1. Chase Sexton (KTM) 2. Rockstar Energy GASGAS Factory Racing rider Justin Barcia was in spectacular form at Foxborough in Round 12 of the 2025 AMA Supercross Championship, qualifying fastest in the 450SX Class and then racing to a convincing fifth-place result after negotiating the incredibly tough, muddy track conditions endured at Gillette Stadium. Justin Barcia finishes with fifth place at Round 12 of the season BAMBAM opens race day with the fastest 450SX qualifying time! Experienced racer currently sixth position in the point-standings Barcia entered the Foxborough event equipped with his GASGAS MC 450F Factory Edition prepared for the rain, with the New York native known for his skills when the skies open up. The number 51 demonstrated his mud riding prowess from the outset, rocketing to the top of the 450SX qualifying timesheets for the first time this year, finding early comfort on what was almost immediately a brutal track surface. An eighth-place finish in his Heat Race was then backed up by front-running pace in the Main Event, as BAMBAM was in the mix with the leading group during the early stages. Battling all race long, he would cross the line in a solid fifth place by the end of the race to conclude his weekend. Justin Barcia: "Supercross in Gillette Stadium was a good day for me! I qualified P1, which was an absolutely awesome way to start things off. A few crashes in my Heat Race weren’t ideal, so I luckily qualified through there as it was a bit nerve-wracking. Later on, I got off to a good start in the Main Event and was right there with the leaders throughout – I was around or in a podium spot at different stages, but ended up bringing it home in fifth-place after a super-challenging day. I'm looking forward to getting back to work and getting after it next weekend.” Next Race: April 12 – Philidelphia, Pennsylvania Results 450SX Class – Foxborough 1. Aaron Plessinger (KTM) 2.
