KIRK GIBBS AND GASGAS RACING TEAM TAKE GILLMAN PROMX TOP-FIVE RESULT

GASGAS Racing Team charger Kirk Gibbs finished fifth overall in Gillman's third stop of the 2024 Australian ProMX Championship this afternoon, as youthful teammate Byron Dennis continued his MX2 rookie campaign by racing to P8 overall this weekend.

Gibbs factored among the front-runners in the MX1 division at the South Australian circuit, qualifying fourth at the conclusion of Superpole and then racing inside the top-five throughout the opening moto.

Gibbs eventually took the chequered flag in seventh, but bounced back for a hard-fought fourth in moto two and marginally missed out on a round podium. The former MX1 title winner's consistency has him positioned fifth in the standings, equipped with the GASGAS MC 450F.

Kirk Gibbs: "Today wasn't too bad! In the first moto I struggled a bit, rode a bit tight and dropped back in the end, but in the second moto I was a lot more comfortable and we took a lot of positives. I need to get away with those front guys early and we should be right there in the mix."

Teenage revelation Dennis placed his GASGAS MC 250F fifth in MX2 qualifying to open proceedings this morning and then replicated that result in the opening moto. He ran as high as second in the final race, but had to settle for 11th position in the end after clawing his way forward from well outside of the top 20.

That effort salvaged the 17-year-old Dennis eighth overall, which in turn has him positioned fifth in the MX2 championship rankings as we edge towards the halfway point of the 2024 season. Next on the schedule will be Maitland, New South Wales, from May 24-25.

Byron Dennis: "It was a bit of an average day for me at Gillman. I just didn't have the intensity in the first race and had a bit of bad luck in the second one, but my speed is definitely there. I'm going to put my head down from here and keep on working."

Gillman also saw the second appearance of the MX85 Cup category that's being held at select rounds of the ProMX Championship in 2024, where GASGAS Junior Racing Team rider Seth Thomas qualified fastest and picked up the overall onboard his GASGAS MC 85 with a 2-1 moto scorecard.
