Full gas! That’s the only way we can describe what 2020 was like for GASGAS Motorcycles! A truly historic year, with plenty of racing highlights. As we start to sink our teeth into 2021, we’ve taken a quick look back at what was a truly memorable 12 months.
From the launch of our 19-bike-strong 2021 model range to celebrating FIM Trial-E World Cup success and achieving our first FIM MXGP win in our very first season of top-flight motocross competition, we rolled up our sleeves, re-ignited GASGAS and ramped up our racing efforts on a global scale.
With our long and successful history in trial, it made perfect sense that our GASGAS TXT RACING trial range, manufactured in Girona, Spain, was our first model line-up to be launched, back in May 2020. A few short months later, at the conclusion of the FIM TrialGP World Championship, Jorge Casales hopped onto the podium at the final round.
In July, the acquisition of GASGAS Motorcycles by PIERER Mobility AG was 100% complete, which was when we really started to get on the gas! Shortly after, in August, and despite being the new brand in the paddock, we highlighted just how serious we are about our motocross bikes by earning our debut victory in MXGP.
September soon came around and after 10 months of hard work we finally launched our 2021 model range, together with our shiny new website. Thanks to a collective team effort across R&D, production, sales and marketing, finally GASGAS were very much up and running with bikes making their way all across the world.
Media launches are always a good time and our first came in October, despite the challenges and restrictions faced by all. Welcoming international journalists and bike testers to Austria, together with a handful of our top athletes we brought our enduro and trial models together and had some serious fun.
As we headed into the second half of the year we’d already celebrated numerous motorsport successes, but we were only just getting started. Albert Cabestany secured the FIM Trial-E World Cup title in October, giving us a fourth consecutive Trial-E title and good reason, not that we really needed it, to sign him as our new trial team manager for 2021.
Even in a year crammed full of so many highlights, we made even more exciting announcements before 2020 was over! After revealing our AMA Supercross and Pro Motocross team in November, we then went even bigger. As well as making tracks in the dirt, to complete our 2021 global racing program we confirmed we were stepping into international road racing and the FIM Moto3™ World Championship.
What a year it was… here’s to plenty more fun and exciting times ahead!
