It was a mixed bag for FAR Racing GasGas North America teammates Andrew DeLong and Korrie Steede at this weekend’s Ironman GNCC in Crawfordsville, Indiana.
Riding a GasGas XC300 in the XC1 Pro class, DeLong was turning in an excellent ride when disaster struck halfway into the race. The Pennsylvania rider went down hard on lap three in one of the roughest portions of the course, injuring both wrists and bruising several ribs. After several minutes to gather his composure, DeLong was able to rejoin the fray and eventually finish ninth in class.
In the Women’s Pro division (WMX), Korie Steede finished sixth on her GasGas XC250, despite having problems at the start. Steede was unable to get her bike to fire when the green flag dropped. Once she finally got going, she was able to work he way just short of the top-five.
It’s unfortunate that I crashed because I was riding well and the bike was working great. The track was really rough and I was trying to keep pace with the top guys and I just lost it. It was a really good day for racing and the bike was working great. The dirt was beyond good, but it got really, really rough. My wrists are pretty sore but I should be ready for next weekend’s enduro.
I had a rough start to the race. I wasn’t able to get my bike to start when the green flag dropped and another class took off before I was able to get going. Once I got going I felt awesome. The bike was working great and I was feeling good. There was a double jump in the moto track portion and I was the only rider in my class to attempt it. My bike had so much power that it gave me the confidence to try it.
